A prominent socio-cultural organisation, Isokan Kwara Development Initiative, has berated the state Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq over the appointment of Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) for Local Governments in the state.
In a statement issued by the media unit of the group and signed by Alh. Bola Mogaji, which was made available to our medium describing the governor’s action as executive recklessness.
The group said it was not surprised about the prolonged vacuum at the third tier of government in the state, stressing that the action of the governor is an aberration to the1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
According to the statement, constitutional provisions, particularly Section 7(1) provides that, “The system of local government by the democratically elected local government council is under this Constitution guaranteed and accordingly, the government of every state shall subject to section 8 of the Constitution ensure their existence under a law which provides for the establishment, structure, composition, finance and functions of such Council”.
The statement described the situation in Kwara as unfortunate, having produced eminent jurists and legal luminaries both at the state and national levels, adding that the ruling All Progressives Congress, which promised change on its Otoge mantra, apparently had no value to add to the growth and development of the local councils in the state.
