Kwara Assembly suspends Modibbo-Kawu’s confirmation, okays 6 commissioner-nominees

Six commissioner-nominees sent to Kwara State House of Assembly by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq have been screened and confirmed.
The confirmation of the last nominee from Ilorin South, Sa’adaatu Modibbo-Kawu, it was learnt, said to be on lesser Hajj was suspended until her return.
Their confirmation which followed their screening on the floor of the House was witnessed by other members of the public including friends and supporters and family members.
Appearing before the House, a nominee from Kaiama Local Government, Architect Aliyu Muhammad Saifudeen frowned at perpetual indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road median particularly in the state capital.
Architect Saifudeen who said poor refuse disposal could lead to outbreak of diseases and other epidemics suggested punitive measures against anyone found guilty of unaccepted refuse disposal culture through legislation.
Also, a nominee from Ekiti Local Government, Dr Raji Razaq assured that every ward would have at least one primary healthcare renovated in addition to the twenty facilities that has already witnessed renovation across the three Senatorial District of the State since inception of this administration
Razaq said the present dispensation has adopted inter and intra agency collaboration to achieve success in the health sector through sound community participation.
On COVID 19, the nominee noted that Kwara state is now ranked number four among the states in the federation with effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic and charged residents of the state to take the vaccine which he said would be a requirement to travel abroad.
Responding to questions, Ibrahim Rotimi Iliasu of Moro Local Government opined that the road constructed and rehabilitated under governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq would stand the test of time.
He observed that the government is challenged with road selection and pursity of funds as about five thousand roads have been tipped for construction and rehabilitation across the state.
Earlier, nominee from Baruten Local Government, Alhaji Aliyu Lafia Kora-Sabi stated that rural electrification has been strengthened by present administration in the state and reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration towards improving electricity supply in the state.
Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Danlad-Salihu expressed displeasure over the erratic power supply in Sango Area, Ilorin and urged Laifia Kora-Sabi to improve power supply in the area if returned to Energy Ministry to enhance socio-economic activities of the affected communities.
He urged the newly confirmed commissioners to build a good working relationship with the state legislature which will entrench smooth governance in the state.
Other nominees who responded to questions on the floor of the House include Fatima Arinola Lawal of Ilorin East and Wahab Femi Agbaje, Offa.
