N8m scam: 28-yr-old remanded in prison custody

For cheating and breach of trust, an Ilorin Magistrate Court has remanded one Yunus Akeem Bolaji of Magaji compound, Ita-Alamu area of Ilorin, Kwara state in Oke Kura prison custody
According to Police First Investigation Report (FIR), sometimes in the year 2020, the accused tricked the complainant to open tiles shop to be managed for him. A total sum of nineteen million, three hundred and ninety thousand naira (N19,390,000).
For his criminal breach of trust and cheating contrary to section 312 and 322 of the Penal Code laws, to the sum of N8million, Akeem was remanded till the next court hearing.
That on 17 may, 2021, Muhammed Yakubu of No 10 Abiola close, Ilorin Kwara state reported the matter via written petition to the State Commissioner of Police.
And when the shop was audited in April, 2021, it was discovered that a sum of eight million, three hundred and eighty-two naira (N8,383,000) had been converted for personal use. And the investigation carried out by the police revealed that he committed the offences.
The opposing counsel, led by Joseph Oladipo argued that the Police’s FIR about his client was not true. That the accused his not the only person managing and involved in the running of the business.
He further argued that the children of the complainant are keys to the day-to-day affairs of the shop.
But the state prosecuting counsel argued against the bail application considering the amount involved.
The presiding judge, Mrs. I.O Olawoyin however remanded the accused in prison custody and adjoined that matter till 15th July, 2021 for further hearing.
