Patience, greatest virtue of true believers – Cleric

By Jimoh Sulyman

Muslims have been enjoined to view patience as the greatest virtue a Muslim can possess and also a treasure that must be cherished by all true believers.

This was said on Friday by Imam Jamiu Hanafi Gere, the Chief Imam of Kwara state high court, central mosque Ilorin, while giving his jumuah sermon to the congregation.

Imam Gere noted that Allah wants all true believers to be patient and faithful, whenever they seek for a thing from Allah, because Allah is the most timely.

He added that Muslims should totally put their faith in Allah and in Allah alone, and not heedlessly seek for other forces that can bestow upon them what Allah hasn’t  given to them.

The cleric reiterated that nobody can grant the heart desire of anybody without the leave of Allah, because surely, He is the doer of all things.

The Imam in his remark, categories people into three groups in the premise of reliance on Allah, in his own statement, he said, “the first group are the people that do not believe in Allah but believe in their own efforts, those ones will end up in futility, because it only Allah put success in all efforts.

“The second group are those that believe in Allah but do not put in their own efforts in order to complement their belief to achieve their objectives, those ones will remain stagnant, because Allah requires us to work hard in order for Him to bless our efforts.

“The third group  who are the best of the three, which Islam really encourages, are those that have utmost belief in Allah but do put in their own best efforts, in order to achieve their aims and objectives” Gere noted.

The Islamic Scholar stated that those that are doing good and patient with Allah regardless of the test they’re facing, will be rewarded with a special place in the Paradise.

In other part of the ‘Khutbah’ , Imam Gere encourages the people to make sure they recite the Holy Qur’an and ponder over the meaning, for their spiritual and moral upliftment.

He stressed that the holy Qur’an gives report on past, present and future events, in order for us to learn from the past and structure our lives in line with the law of Allah.
