3 granted bail over alleged sales of pre-registered sim card

For allegedly selling of pre-resisted sim card, the magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday granted one Joe Abud, Ojo Taiye and Abiodun Ibrahim bail in the sum of N200,000.
The Magistrate, Mercy Adebola also granted the accused persons bail with two sureties each who must be the accused persons family members.
The accused were docked for offence of criminal conspiracy contrary to section 96 of the penal code and punishable under section 97 of the penal code law, dealing, illegal sales and use of pre-register sim card contrary to section 131 (2) A of the Nigerian Communication Act 2003 and section 1 (ii) of the miscellaneous offences Act 2004.
The complainant revealed on 30 November, 2018, the case was reported to the intelligence and investigation department of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command Ilorin, which led to the arrest of Obudu, Taiye and Ibrahim,.
The complaint further revealed that one Fiefamotey Francis Esinkuma, a staff of the Nigeria Communications Commission alleged that while on routine duty discovered that the suspects were dealing on pre-registered sim card.
Investigation further revealed that Obudu, Taiye and Ibrahim are sales agents who deal in illegal pre-registered sim card.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Ajide Peter Kehinde urged the court to remind the accused persons in custody.
He said if the accused are granted bail, they may commit similar offence and also tamper with the investigation which was on going over the matter.
In his submission, the counsel to the accused persons Majaid Oloyede prayed the court to discountenance the submission of the prosecutor.
He said the issue of bail is at the discretion of the court, saying the court should use his discretionary power judiciously and judiciary.
The case was however adjourned to January 23, 2019.
