Panic grew up this evening among the residents of Apata Yakuba area of Ilorin as community members and students clash with men of Kwara State Police Command over illegal arrest of students and youths in that community as internet fraudsters.
The incidents which led to some people being injured in the process of running for their dear lives during the clash happened at around 5pm to 6pm.
It was gathered that the operatives always storm the area to arrest some students and youths of that community for alleged involvement in Yahoo yahoo activities.
National Pilot learnt that, the youths of the community and the students took to the street to stop the police when they make an attempt to arrest one of them which later led to burning of tyres, stoning, shooting of tear gas by the operatives among others.
According to an eye witness who told National Pilot reporter that, everyone ran for their dear lives when the incident happened.
“The operatives came to arrest people as usual with claim that they are yahoo boys. Not every students are into internet fraud. They don’t deal with students alone,they also harass the youths of our community too.
“It is unbearable anymore that’s they face the police too. When they started shooting tear gas no one can bear it and we ran for our dear lives. They came to arrest an collect money. That is illegal activities. If they want to arrest Yahoo yahoo boys, they know how to do their work.
“Somewhere injured in the process. It’s time for the community to report the police illegal activities in that area before things get out hands.”
Effort to contact the police spokesman,SP Ajayi Okasanmi on the development prove abortive as he is phone was busy as at the time filing up the report.
