“Politicians must deliver on electioneering promises made to electorates”

Government and political office holders in the country have been called upon to fulfill their electoral promises to the people who voted for them even as they have been advised to guide against the abuse of power while in the office.
The warning was given by the chief Imam of IMAN central mosque, Irewolede area, Ilorin, Sheikh Sharafdeen Olohunoyin, on Friday during the weekly sermon prior the observation of the congregational two unit prayer.
While addressing the congregants, the Islamic cleric noted that government, political office holders and those in powerful positions should not abuse the authority that is vested in them by Allah and the electorates that voted them into their respective offices but deliver on their electioneering made to the people during campaigns.
This, he noted, becomes necessary in order to win the people’s trust and confidence at the polls who trust them with power with the hope of good governance.
“Do not renege on your promise to Allah and remain steadfast in His worship and Allah also will not renege on His promises to you because Allah always fulfill His promises to all human”, he noted.
He also said worshippers should be dutiful to their parents and always respect and obey them unless their instruction is in contravention of the instructions of Almighty Allah and the teaching of the noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
While stressing on the need for piety amongst Muslims children adults, the cleric stated that “All Muslims should always love and respect their parents, because the pleasure of Allah lies in the pleasure of our parents and the wrath of Allah lies in the displeasure of our parents “.
The religious scholar advised the people to repent and return to Allah before death overtakes them adding that every Muslim should return to Allah in repentance and absolute submission before death comes knocking and our ultimate return to Allah.
He therefore called on the Muslims to increase their act of worship and good deeds which should be done solely for the sake of Allah adding that such is the only path a Muslim can tread to find favour with his creator and “moreover good deed helps to erase and purify us from our sins”
He called on the congregation to dissociate themselves from all act of hypocrisy because it is one of the most grievous misdeeds in the sight of Allah.
“Hypocrisy is not only suffered consequences by the hypocrites alone but it also affects everyone around them which is a similitude of the state of our country. Our nation’s backwardness is due to the hypocrisy of our leaders and people alike”.
Olohunoyin therefore emphasised on the obligation of all Muslims to always supplicate for the mercy and blessings of Allah to be showered in excess on the soul of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW) according to the provision of Q33:V56.
