School Resumption: Kwara PTA approves students’ levies for 2018/2019 session

 

Barely 10 days to the reopening of schools in Kwara State, the Parents Teachers’ Association (PTA) has approved levies to be paid by categories of secondary school students for the 2018/2019 academic session.

According to the PTA, returning students in the junior category are to pay N1,450 while levy for their senior counterpart is N1,500. However, new intakes into junior and senior classes are to pay N5,180 and N5,400 respectively.

This was revealed by the Secretary, All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary School (ANCOPSS), Mrs R.O Adeoti during an interactive session of stakeholders in the education sector held in Ilorin, on Tuesday.

She, however, commended the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Bilikisu Oniyangi for her support to the PTA and ANCOPSS.

In her remarks, the Education commissioner reiterated the state government commitment towards quality and free education in the state.

She stressed the need for schools to adhere strictly to the State government free education policy.

According to her, no student either returning or the new intake is allowed to pay school fees except PTA levies that have been approved by the Ministry of Education.

The Commissioner therefore commended the Parents Teachers Association led by Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye, the first Makama of Ilorin for complementing State government effort in ensuring quality education that will give children a chance for better life.

Earlier, the Chairman Parents Teachers Association in the state commended the State government for creating enabling environment for the Parents Teachers Association to contribute its quota towards improvement of schools.

Oniye further said educational development should not be the sole responsibility of government but rather collective efforts of all stakeholders in education.

According to him,โ€ if we have a shared commitment to play our various parts as parents, as government and as pupils, the education reforms will build a productive citizens that will be useful to him or herself and society.โ€
