KWIRS generates N11.66bn in 7 months

…contributes N13bn to IF-K

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has generated a total sum of N11.66 billion between January to July, 2018.
The Executive Chairman of KWIRS, Dr. Muritala Awodun made the disclosure during a media parley for the second quarter in collaboration with the state Ministry of Information and Communications, Ilorin on Wednesday.
He said, “We generated N1.3 billion in April, May N1.2bn and N1.3 billion for the month of June totaling N3.88billion for the second quarter of 2018 year. If you put this figure together with that of the first quarter, which was N6.44 billion you will have a total of N10.32 billion. The figure for July is N1.33 billion. When you add these figures together for a total of seven months (January to July) that’s N11.66 billion. But our focus is on the half year which stands at N10.32 billion.
The chairman stressed that as an institution of government saddled with the responsibility of revenue generation in the state, they are conscious of the changes within the political environment and not taking it for granted.
According to him, the agency has put in mechanisms to ensure the sustainability of the revenue service and improve on revenue generation.
He said, “We have introduced several things which has to do with development capacity within the levels of staff in the service which was design in accordance to our training programmes cutting across all cadres to operate within the norms of world standard.
“The agency within the second quarter of the year started the process of engaging in the International Standard Organisation (ISO) to certify policy management system and Business Continuity Management system.
“We believe that if our operations are not standardise it will be difficult to be sustainable. So what we are putting in place is how we do our jobs according to international standard.
“Ours will be the first revenue service in Nigeria to be subjecting to international standard measurement. As I speak to you the process is ongoing in the service and we believe that by the time we are ending this quarter, we will have obtained the ISO9001 for policy management system and ISO2012 for Business management system.
Awodun emphasized that the essence of this certification is to ensure that whoever is at the revenue service or taking over the operations would be able to carry on activities within the norms of ISO.
On the Community Impact Programmes, he stressed that the agency has donated two new transformers and boreholes to both Budo-Oke and Eyenkorin communities an outskirt of Ilorin.
“We also donated a borehole to Patigi market in Kwara North, there is the ongoing beautification of Offa Garage roundabout, evacuation of refuse dump in Oke-Ero market and we have also commenced the third annual tax club competition where over 100 schools are beneficiaries.
The KWIRS boss also noted that the agency has contributed a total sum of N13 billion to the Infrastructural Fund Kwara (IF-K) since inception from September 2016 till date.
