Police arraign farmers, trader for alleged theft

Police have arraigned four suspects before a magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin on offenses bordering on stealing and receiving stolen properties, yesterday, 20th of October.
The quartet of Abdullahi Idris, 23 years old; Atagher Amos, 23 years old; Aminu Adamu, 20 years old, all farmers and 25 years old trader, Shehu Garuba, were brought before Magistrate J. B Salihu.
According to the First information report obtained by National Pilot, the charges leveled against them are, criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, theft and receiving stolen properties all of which contravened section 97, 312, 287 and 317 of Penal Code Law.
The Police charge sheet has it that, Abdullahi Idris and his fellow employees of a farm situated at Owode Village via Oyun old Jebba Road, Ilorin, were caught stealing about 20 bags of harvested maize from the farm worth the sum of N220,000.
Also, according to the report, during the police interrogation of the suspects, the first defendant, Abdullahi Idris confessed to the alleged offences and also mentioned Atagher Amos and Aminu Adamu as his accomplices.
During further investigation, Atagher Amos equally confessed and mentioned the name of Shehu Garuba M as one of the receivers of the loot.
The matter was reported to the Police at around 8:40pm on Thursday 14th of this month (October) by Sani Nasiru, a soldier belonging to the 222 Battalion, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin who is in control of the farm as the security officer.
