Following the trend of insecurity, crime and criminality in Ilorin and Kwara State in general, the Balogun Ajikobi Community Development Association (BACDA) has taken the bull by the horns by introducing community policing to wage war against criminal activities in the environment. They also unveil the security bill boards at three major spots in the community.
The association, during the launching of the community policing, held at the Balogun Ajikobi Compound on Thursday, said that the security of people and properties is no one man show, adding that there is a need for communities to rise up and support the police and other security agencies in crime fighting.
The association set up three-man-committee and they are Alhaji Ismaila Olola, Alhaji Kehinde Gbirigidi and Alpha Shuaib Oloyin to manage the security affairs of the community.
Speaking at the event, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Mukaila Yusuf said that the Community Policing in Ilorin Emirate has covered more than 50 Communities so far.
He urged everyone, especially the Magajis, to support the Committee so as to perform brilliantly well.
According to the Deputy Commandant of Nigeria Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Kwara State Command, Mr. Oluwawi Friday, while giving orientation to the members of the community on the negative effects of drugs abuse, said that about 283,000 people in Ilorin are taking harmful substance.
“No crime is committed without the use of hard drug. NDLEA will not take it easy with anyone found wanting and will face the wrath of law.”
He tasked parents to keep monitoring their wards/children, especially the kind of friends they are keeping, adding that anyone caught taking hard drugs within the community would be seriously dealt.
The Balogun Ajikobi, Alhaji Isiaka Yusuf, thanked all the security agencies for the support and commended the Community Development Association for their roles in promoting the image of the community.
He promised to support the community policing with all his power for them to achieve their mission.
Alhaji Yusuf charged all the Magajis under him to pass the message to their subjects and warn their youths saying that anyone found wanting would face the wrath of the law.
