The people of Kwara State have now realized that they have made a wrong choice in the present government in the State as their expectations have been dashed with complaints that they were sold something that they should not have bought.
The former Senate President and two-term Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki stated this in an interview with Arise Television on Tuesday.
Senator Saraki disclosed that they said it is their turn in government to make Kwara a better place, with a promise to deliver on their electoral promises which he said does not happen, saying “we all can listen to what is going on, as the people themselves have come to realize that it was a big mistake that was based on propaganda and lies and so that is what one has learnt that sentiments and propaganda are issues with no substance”.
“If you come to Kwara today and talk to a lot of people, you will find out that a lot of them will tell you that we got lies sold to us and propaganda, we have made certain mistakes in following up issues and I read that at the end of the day, they were better off then than now”, Saraki explained.
Going further, the former Senate President agreed that sometimes the electorate will get it right as they may sometime go with emotion and later come out to say they have got it wrong, saying at the end of the day in Kwara there was no substance as it was more of propaganda.
Saraki disclosed, “since we lost the election, I immediately congratulated the party, I gave them support, gubernatorial candidate who wanted to go to the electoral tribunal, to the Appeal and to Supreme Court, we called him that let’s cooperate don’t go beyond electoral tribunal and now it is the party themselves and the people that have begun to say we made a mistake here, so one has learnt from the electorate”.
He promised that they would not start from day one in antagonizing or go against the governor and that he should be allowed to govern and show what he can do for the people of Kwara.
When asked to comment on the relationship of his family and the governor’s, Dr. Saraki said it would not be fair to Kwarans to narrow down the issue of governance or politics to the issue of two families, calling on the governor to make use of the opportunity on his side to deliver on his promises and deliver on dividend of democracy and address issues concerning the state.
He advised the governor to use his remaining one year and three months to make things better for the people of the state, saying “clearly that’s not what is happening now, he should not get distracted by family matters”.
He equally enjoined him to focus on how to deliver on his electoral promises to the workers, to some of the teachers, to the youths that they promised a lot of jobs and be able to run an administration that shows that there is a good knowledge of how government should be run.
On Shonga Farm which they said had become controversial after Senator Saraki left office, the former Senator disclosed that part of the Zimbabwean group that came in 2005 are still there, doing very well in the poultry arm of the business.
Today, according to Senator Saraki, they are probably the second or third largest poultry in the country, saying since the inception, they had South African company that invested in it.
Going further, he said that the concept behind bringing the Zimbabwean farmers was to have commercial farming, the concept which he said had led to having one of the largest poultry farms in the country today.
