70-yr-old remanded for allegedly defrauding  Church N2.2m in Ilorin

For allegedly defrauding a church of N2,2million in Ilorin the Kwara State capital, Ibrahim Akande, 70yrs, has been remanded in prison custody.
He was dragged before Magistrate Ahmed Ibrahim Dasuki for criminal conspiracy, contrary to section 97 of penal code law and advance fee fraud contrary to section 3(1) of Advance Fee Fraud and other Related Offences, 2006.
The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that a letter of complaint was received from the  office of I.D Hammed and Co Amilengbe road Ilorin, solicitors to one Deacon Olatubosun, Pastor of Powerful  Bible Church, Unity Road Ilorin to the office of the Inspector General of  Police X-Squad Ilorin that one Ibrahim Akande conspired with one Prince Oyetunde Abayomi and Bakare  Adebayo now at large to defraud the youth’s member of the church of the sum of N2,230,000.00.
The amount was paid into the  First Bank accounts number 3068237737 and 3028660630 belonging to Akande and Abayomi respectively.
The FIR further revealed that Akande deceived the church  members that he is a senior member of the Federal Road Safety Corp and also the chairman of the security committee in Abuja. He said by virtue of his position, he was allotted with some paramilitary slots.
The prosecutor, Zacheaus Folorunsho prayed the court to remand the accused person to prison custody as investigation is ongoing on the matter. He further said granting bail may jeopardise further investigation as two of the accused persons are still at large.
In  his submission, counsel to the accused person, Ahmed Yusuf, prayed the court to discountenance the submission of the prosecutor and graciously grant the accused person bail on a very liberal term.
In his rulling, magistrate Dasuki remanded the accused person to prison custody . The case was adjourned to 6th May, 2019.
