Business stakeholders in Kwara State have reacted to the 2018 budget presentation by Kwara State Government.
The budget was presented by the Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed to the state House of Assembly last Thursday.
The stakeholders lauded the state government for giving priority to the economic sector in the budget.
The Director General of Kwara State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), Barr. Ayo Fagbemi said, โwe are impressed that the state government has prioritised the economic sector.
” Our demand is for the state government to set aside some percentage of the 2018 budget for the revival of the moribund industries in the state.
“We have always been stressing this because of the important roles these industries play in revenue generation and job creation. We have a lot of industries laying fallow and once fund is injected, it will boost the state economy.
He called on the government to partner with the various stakeholders in other to boost the economy of the state.
On his part, the Executive Secretary of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Mr. Johnson Olugbenga urged the state government to expand the infrastructural sector such as ensuring the availability of power, water, portable roads across the state to ease industrial activities.
He stressed that the state government had assured tax waivers for small industries in the state, urging the present administration to live up to expectation.
Also speaking a businessman, Chief Executive Officer of Chidex Superstores, Chief Chinedu Ezeanowi called on the government to use the 2018 budget in ensuring the cash flow in the market.
He implored the Governor Ahmed led administration to find lasting solution to salary arrears of civil servants salary to improve economic situation in the state.
“Once this section of the society is financially buoyant, businesses and patronage will pick up and the standard of living will improve,” he added.
…expresses optimism in IVTEC reducing unemployment
The President of the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, (KWACCIMA), Alhaji Ahmed Adeoye Raji has expressed optimism that the International Vocational And Technical Entrepreneurship center, Ajasse Ipo in Kwara State would reduce the rate of unemployment among youths in the state.
The president of the chamber stated this in Ilorin while reacting to the commissioning of the centre recently by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
According to him, the chamber would join hands with the state government to ensure the success of the centre to an enviable height and appealed to Kwarans particularly the youth to key into the project by becoming self reliant and self employed.
Ahmed commended the foresight of the state government for establishing the centre which according to him, if well managed, would churn out standard professionals who could even be recognised globally.
He urged the government to continue to embark on people’s oriented projects to engage many youths in productive means.
Ahmed noted that the centre with the mission to provide technical and vocational skills would improve the business environment in the state which KWACCIMA ultimately keys into.
