Emir charges FG, KWSG on Kaiama-Kishi road

 

The Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, has appealed to both the Federal and Kwara State Government to as a matter of urgency facilitate the construction of Kaiama-Wawa and Kaiama-Kishi roads.
The Emir, said the construction of these roads will not only impact positively on the economic activities of the area but would also contribute meaningfully in reducing the activities of armed robbers and other forms of criminality in the area.
Alhaji Muazu said some of criminals have continued to take advantage of the dilapidating condition of the roads to perpetrate their heinous acts.
The traditional ruler however applauded the Federal Government for the approval of the establishment of military barracks, saying that the presence of military in the area would scare away criminals.
The monarch stated this on Tuesday when he received the officials of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) who paid him a courtesy visit ahead of the flag-off, presentation and distribution of relief materials to the victims of armed banditry attack which occurred in February 2018.
Representing NEMA, the state Coordinator for Niger and Kwara State, Mrs. Magami Lydia Madu, who conducted the distribution of relief materials worth millions of naira, to the victims, said the items are purely FG’s intervention towards assisting to cushion the effect of the suffering of the victims.
According to her, the items distributed were selected after a careful assessment of their immediate needs.
Mrs Madu sympathised with the Emir and the entire people of Kaiama local government over the unfortunate incident and prayed that such would not happen again.
Responding, the Council Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abubakar Bata, said since the incident occurred, the household that were affected were dejected that their community was attacked by criminals. He added that the incident rendered the victims handicapped as they could no longer go to their farms.
Bala however used the occasion to appreciate the FG for the kind gesture.  The Chairman stressed that the relief materials would go a long way in rebuilding the houses that were burnt by the bandits.
He afterward charged all the stakeholders, particularly security agencies to ensure that the criminals are flushed away from the area describing their activities as alien to the people.
Speaking, the Special Adviser on Emergency Management and Relief Services to the Governor, Alhaji Rasaq Akanbi Jimoh, commended the FG and NEMA for the provision of the relief materials. He however charged the FG to expedite action on the remaining consignment approved for the state.
In their own contributions, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Hajia Aminat Ahmed, member of the Kwara State House of Assembly representing Kaiama/Kamanji/Wanibe, Hon. Ahmed Ibn Mohammed and Hon. Baeko Suleiman appreciated the FG, saying that the intervention is very timely.
The communities affected in the attack included:  Vera, Woro, Nukuzi and Tungar Maje.
Items distributed to the victims included; bags of rice, beans, garri, tomatoes, groundnut oil, noodles, maize and building materials such as roofing sheets, cements and nails.
