A front line member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and National President of Afonja Descendants Union (ADU), Alhaji AbdulKareem Olola Kasum has urged the electorate to reject his party’s Kwara Central Senatorial candidate, Alhaji Ibrahim Oloriegbe ahead of Saturday’s election.
Instead, Kasumu who is a staunch loyalist of President Muhammed Buhari has urged the electorate to vote massively for the Senate President and national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Bukola Saraki.
But Kasum, who reportedly made the statement at the weekend, cautioned that giving the position to the APC would reverse the opportunities that Ilorin currently enjoys as ‘producer’ of the Number Three citizen in Nigeria, adding that his party’s candidate,  Oloriegbe cannot attain such position even if he wins the election.
According to him, If Saraki is defeated because of the propaganda that is coming from his party, the APC, Ilorin will lose the Senate Presidency.
He noted that voting out Saraki will be like throwing away the baby with the bathwater which will have dire consequences for the district and the state in general.
He advised Ilorin to continue to stand with Saraki because losing him will lead to other things that will be too late to correct, adding that it is not impossible for anyone to make mistakes but it is incumbent on us to find a way out of such mistake.
He said, “If Saraki is defeated because of the propaganda that is coming from our party, Ilorin will lose the Senate Presidency. However the major concern of the people right now is not the position but to just get the man out because of perceived failings. But doing that will be like throwing away the baby with the bathwater.
“Ilorin should not throw away Saraki. Losing him will lead to other things that will be too late for us to correct. It is not impossible for anyone to make mistakes but we should be ready and find the way out of such mistake”.
The renowned social critic also called for a deeper probe into the recent crash involving the helicopter conveying Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, according to him, based on insinuations that the incident might have been manipulated to score political goals.
Olola Kasum,  a 1965 graduate of the Nkrumah Ideological Institute in Ghana, said he was personally not convinced about the accident, and cited the example of former Egyptian strong man,  Jamal Nasser, who was alleged to have contrived an attack on him during a campaign.
