Michael Lee Aday, the US singer and actor better known as Meat Loaf, has passed away. He was 74.
His family broke news of his death in a statement released via his official Facebook page on Friday.
According to the statement, the entertainer died on Thursday night while he was surrounded by Deborah, his wife, as well as Pearl and Amanda, his daughters.
“Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight surrounded by his wife Deborah, daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends,” it read.
The statement also highlighted the career of the deceased which spanned six decades as well as the success of ‘Bat Out of Hell’, his hit song.
“His amazing career spanned six decades that saw him sell over 100 Million albums worldwide and star in over 65 movies, including ‘Fight Club’, ‘Focus’, ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ and ‘Wayne’s World,” it added.
“Bat Out of Hell’ remains one of the top 10 selling albums of all time. We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man.
“We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time.

The singer started his career in Los Angeles when he formed his first band named Meat Loaf Soul, and went on to establish himself as a popular name in the global music industry.
