Monitor distribution of palliatives, Prof Badmas urges govt

The Federal and State Governments have been urged to closely monitor the distribution of palliatives to vulnerable Nigerians by their various committees to ensure equitable distribution.
Prof. Yusuf Lanre-Badmus, a lecturer of Islamic Studies with the University of Ilorin, made the suggestion during a telephone chat in Ilorin.
According to him, the committees handling the distribution of palliatives in some parts of the country are not executing the distribution with the fear of God, honesty and sincerity of purpose.
He said some food items given out to some vulnerable persons cannot sustain them through the duration of the mandatory lockdown.
Committees delegated by government to distribute the palliatives should be monitored because not all of them are honest and sincere.
The government needs to monitor the committees on their distribution pattern, so that the food items will get to the intended beneficiaries in appreciable quantity and quality, he added.
The lecturer condemned a situation where 10kg of rice was given to over 30 persons, and advised the committee to discharge the assignment with the fear of God, reminding them that they will account to God for their deeds
Lanre-Badmus also called on political office holders in the country to complement the efforts of the government in assisting the less privilege in their localities.
He equally called on wealthy Muslims to assist the vulnerable people during this period, instead of spending money on Umrah (lesser Hajj) and Hajj, which Allah ordained to perform once in life time.
