By Jimoh Sulyman
The former minister of Youth and Sports development Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi has declared his interest in running for the position of Senator for Kwara Central Senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections.
Abdullahi announced he is throwing in his hat to contest for a seat at the red chamber on Sunday while addressing party members at the PDP Ubandawaki ward meeting.
In his remark, he said, “I want to thank you all for your support for me and for my leader over the years, what you asked of me is to work towards how Ubandawaki will produce a Governor in 2027.
“Most especially because we’re not comfortable with the ways things is being done by those in power which is why you chose your child, Bolaji Abdullahi to look for a way to be the Governor in 2027 but due to our societal ideal which says that God’s time is the best.
“After a critical thinking by our leader, he decided that the state having three parts, it will be unjust if only two parts are getting all the benefits while the other one is being neglected ,hence the decision to zone the Governorship ticket to Kwara North.
“We’re happy with the decision made by our leader and that is why I opted for Senate and through the support of the people I believe it can be achieved.” he stated.
The former Commissioner for Education however reiterated his interest in occupying the Governorship position in the future, saying that the senatorial post ,”will be the stepping stone to get to the gubernatorial seat.”
Abdullahi was a former Gubernatorial aspirant under the umbrella of PDP in the 2019 primary election.
