Panic as Adeta,Isale Jagun hoodlums exchange gun fire in Ilorin

... destroy properties * Many injured * police launch manhunt for fleeing suspects

There was panic around Adeta and Isale Jagun areas of Ilorin west local government as hoodlums engaged in gun battle on Monday.

National Pilot learned that during the incident many sustained gunshot injuries. Also, property worth millions of naira were destroyed by the hoodlums.

It was also gathered that some of the victims were currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

According to an eye witness, problem started on Sunday when some hoodlums invaded the areas and started shooting sporadically, leaving residents in fear.

” What happened yesterday was the reprisal attack and left many injured. They shot one in the eyes while some were matcheted”

” Cars were destroyed,they looted shops and carted away all the goods.

” As they were shooting, some were throwing bottles. We ran for our dear lives. Despite the seriousness of the situation , no police was seen to bring the situation under control,”the eyewitness said.
However, in a swift reaction,the kwara state police command have deployed operatives of the command to the scene to restore peace to the affected areas.

The Commissioner of police, Tuesday Assayomo has also launched man hunt for the fleeing suspects to be arrested, with three currently in police custody.

This was contained in a press statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday and signed by the Command spokesperson SP Ajayi Okasanmi for the Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, “Kwara State Police Command recieved a disturbing information of the unruly behavior of some youths of Adeta , Isale Jagun and Kuntu areas of Adewole today at about 0600hrs.

“The commissioner of police Kwara State, CP Tuesday Assayomo psc+, on the receipt of the information quickly dispatched a detachment of policemen to the area to restore peace and arrest the perpetrators of the near breakdown of law and order in the area.
“Investigation on the matter is ongoing to unravel the remote and immediate cause(s) of the crisis that led to the damaging of some vehicles parked on the affected streets by the unruly youth. “However, some suspects have been arrested and no report of any casualty

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Tuesday Assayomo has ordered the state CID to take over the case for a discreet investigation.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police advised parents/guardians to warn their children to eschew violence and make use of laid down channels to air their grievances if any, rather than taking the laws into their hands.
“He further warns that anybody arrested in connection with this crisis and any other one for that matter would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“Meanwhile, calm has been restored in the area, members of the public are advised to go about their lawful businesses as police men have been stationed at the affected areas to ensure no further breach to the peace in the areas.”
