Court remands suspected police killer

The magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State capital has on Tuesday ordered that one Abubakar Buba should be remanded in Federal prison for the alleged murder of a police officer, Inspector Joseph Andrya.

He was charged for the offences of Criminal Conspiracy, Armed robbery and Culpable Homicide contrary to section 97, section 6(b) and 1(2) of robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap RII Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and section 221 of Penal Code.

In the Police First Information Report (FIR) obtained by this medium from the court, the criminal case was transferred from Divisional Police Headquarters, Kosubosu to the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin for discreet investigation.

The FIR revealed that the deceased who was in charge of Moore Post via Kosubosu told the two Sergeants attached to him that he’s going to the neighbouring village and that he would return the same day.

“Later the said Inspector was found dead along Moore/Mushi-Gofa road while the motorcycle was not seen,” the statement read.

Upon the investigation carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department of the state, the accused person along with Usman Shehu and Umaru Habibu from Kosubosu were arrested for been armed robbers syndicates in the area.

The FIR further revealed that the trio specialized in robbery and killing of innocent motorcyclist along Kaima, Mooro, Mushi-Gofa and thereby disposing them of their motorcycles.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Isaa Yakubu had told the court not to consider the option of bail for the accused person.

According to him, the offence is not ordinarily bailable and police investigation is not yet perfected on the matter. He added that releasing the accused could perverse the hand of Justice.

Magistrate Osuolale Ajayi who ceded to the submission of the prosecutor remanded the accused in prison while the case was adjourned to 18th September, 2017.
