Islamic cleric remanded for allegedly using hot knife to inflict multiple burns on minor in Ilorin

A 40years old Islamic cleric, Wasiu Farooq, of Oni-Laru, Ogidi area, Ilorin is currently cooling his heels at Oke Eko-Kura correctional service for allegedly inflicting multiple knife burns on the buttocks, thighs and face of his ten years old nephew.

The suspect, (name withheld) according to the complaint, through the action, inflicted serious bodily injury on the boy, who is also his Qurโ€™anic student.

He reportedly committed the crime with the use of cane, different objects and a hot knife.

The suspect was said to have carried out the dastard act on the boy over allegation that he stole a phone.

He was however not been able to substantiate the allegation.

Farooq was subsequently dragged to court for cruelty to children contrary to section 238 (b) of the penal code and voluntary causing hurt without provocation on a minor contrary to section 248 (1) & (2) of the penal code punishable under same sections of penal code.

Magistrate Shade Lawal of the Kwara State juvenile court, in his ruling, remanded the suspect while the matter was adjourned to 19th March, 2020 for continued hearing.

The act has been condemned by parents and guardians alike after the picture of the boy showing the graphic details of the burns was published by National Pilot.
