How senior lawyer exploited my lack of composure in Court – Lawal
Barrister Faruk Lawal is a native of Ilorin, Kwara state. He is a graduate of University of Abuja where obtained his degree in law before proceeding to Nigerian Law School, Kano campus.
He is a private legal practitioner but still attached to the law firm of J.S Bamigboye SAN.
In this interview with JIMOH SULYMAN, Barrister Lawal recalls his most memorable moment in the Court of Law. Excerpt.
This happened while I was at the first law office I was practicing with which was a property Law firm, this scenario was not during my first appearance in court.
I took a case and I decided to handle it on my own and I wrote down the plaints and all but when I got to the court, a case very confident about that I’m going to win because I have done my homework perfectly.
At the Court, the opposing lawyer saw my countenance and started taking advantage of it , it was simply because of the way I was acting, he saw me all fidgety ,I wasn’t composed as I was not presenting my case appropriately.
The judge was even compelled to scold me, he said, that is not the way to do it.
It was simply because of my lack of composure and my time away from the legal practice which has made me forget some of the court procedures.
