Unknown gunmen have kidnapped an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Abdulmumini Yusuf, in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.
Spokesman of the state police command, Okasanmi Ajayi confirmed the incident in Ilorin to Aljazirah Nigeria on Thursday.
Assistant Superintendent of Police, Abdulmumini Yusuf, (a.k.a Emirate 1) is attached to the Area Command office in Ilorin metropolis.
Abdulmumini, was reportedly abducted by unidentified armed men on Tuesday night.
Okasanmi said the command was working tirelessly to rescue the abducted police officer, describing the incident as serious.
He said the motive for the abduction of the officer was yet unknown.
Okasanmi reaffirmed the readiness of the command to protect lives and property of the citizenry in the state.
Secretary of the Kwara state Community Policing Advisory Committee, Shola Muse, described the incident as worrisome and frightening.
Muse, implored security agencies in the state to improve on proactive approach towards prevention and control of crime for the safety of the citizenry.
Informed sources said the officer was about to enter his house at Ogidi area of Ilorin, the state capital when he was abducted on Tuesday night.
