Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger originally requested the services of Anthony Martial as part of the deal that would see Alexis Sanchez move to Manchester United, ESPN reports.
Sanchez, a star performer at the Emirates, eventually traded places with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with both players struggling to settle after the deal was done.
Indeed, Sanchez was sent to Inter on loan this term, while Mkhitaryan, also playing in Serie A, could make his stint with Roma permanent if an accord can be struck.
