CHECKING OF PHONES AT CHECKPOINTS BY POLICEMEN CAN EXPOSE THEM TO ATTACKS OR DEATH, SAYS ADEJOBI
By our staff reporter
The Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police, Muyiwa Adejobi, says policemen who check people’s phones at checkpoints can expose themselves to attacks or even death, describing such act as a distraction.
Adejobi disclosed this on his Twitter handle while speaking on various complaints about policemen stopping passengers, collecting their phones and checking them.
According to Adejobi, searching of a passenger’s phone to the extent of looking for messages, chats and transactions is not only time wasting, but policemen who do that are exposed or are prone to attacks or even death.
The Force PRO added that a wise policeman will not go to the extent of searching passengers phones at checkpoint because it is not only a distraction, but also dangerous, apparently saying that such an officer can be caught off-guard when danger looms.
He therefore cautioned policemen in the habit of checking people’s phones to stop it so as not to expose themselves to attacks or possibly death.
