By our staff reporter

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has handed over the reins of government to his deputy, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

He submitted a letter to the State House of Assembly requesting a 21-day leave to undergo medical treatment overseas.

In his letter, Governor Akeredolu stated that during his absence, his Deputy will assume the role of Acting Governor.

The leave commenced on the 7th of June and is set to conclude on the 6th of July, 2023, taking into account public holidays.

The speaker of the house, Olamide Oladiji, who made the disclosure, said the Governor is a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law.

There have been ongoing speculations about a strained relationship between Governor Akeredolu and his deputy regarding the transfer of power during the governor’s incapacitation.

Sources within the government house in Akure, the state capital, revealed that Akeredolu is aware of his deputy’s attempts to assert himself and his unwarranted desire for power.

According to reports, the deputy governor has allegedly formed a faction within the cabinet and has made promises to a commissioner, guaranteeing them the deputy governor position if he were to assume power.

However, Ayedatiwa vehemently denied these rumours, expressing unwavering loyalty and gratitude towards Governor Akeredolu.
