Suspected Ibadan serial killer, Sunday Shodipe, has again been arrested by the police.
He fled police custody in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, on August 11 and subsequently placed in wanted list.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed his re-arrest to but did not go into details.
โ€œYes we have him now. He is currently in custody,โ€ he told TheCable over the phone before ending the call abruptly.
Shodipe, 19, is a prime suspect in a series of killings recorded at the Akinyele area of Ibadan.
The suspect was arrested by the police in July and kept at the Mokola station in Ibadan, before he escaped.
The state Police Commissioner, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, blamed an off-duty police officer for the escape.
But angry youth staged a protest at the headquarters of the Oyo police command on Wednesday, demanding the immediate rearrest of the suspect.
The police subsequently placed a N500,000 bounty on the suspect.
Meanwhile, the man suspected to be behind series of killings and rape of women, has told the police how he escaped from their custody after he was first arrested.
The suspect told the Police that he escaped after a new Divisional Police Officer, deployed to the station allowed an officer he identified as Funsho to allow him to take his bath.
He said he ran away despite warnings from the police officer.
Shodipe said he escaped when he saw that the officer was discussing with another person and was not paying attention to him.
Shodipe said: โ€œThe new female DPO asked officer Funsho to allow me take my bath. He cautioned me not to try to escape when I am taking my bath.
โ€œI escaped when I saw him discussing with another person. I climbed the borehole pole and jumped the fence. The people living in the area saw me when I escaped but they did not raise any alarm.โ€
