A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, has ordered the detention of 30-year-old teacher Josiah Alkali in a correctional facility over allegations of kissing and romancing four boys. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has charged Alkali with defilement across four distinct cases.
The boys involved are aged between 13 and 15. NSCDC prosecutor Marcus Audu informed the court that the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Kafanchan reported the case to their office on July 3 for investigation.
Audu detailed that Alkali’s actions took place between February and July 2024, when he allegedly invited each boy separately into his room in Takau, engaging in kissing and romancing. The prosecutor also stated that Alkali threatened the boys with harm if they disclosed the incidents.
During the investigation, Alkali reportedly admitted to the offenses. Presiding Judge Samson Kwasu did not accept the defendant’s plea due to a lack of jurisdiction and postponed the case to July 25 for further proceedings.
