Arrested Abuja Mast Climbing Protester Released

Abuja man who was arrested by the police for climbing a mast to protest subsidy removal and the attendant economic hardship in the country has been released.
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Friday confirmed the release of the man, Yushau Shuaibu.
Yushau on July 8 attempted to take his own life by climbing a broadcast mast belonging to Aso radio in Katampe, Abuja.
Yushau had explained that his action was to draw the attention of the federal government to the prevailing hardship in the country.
He was subsequently sent to the FCTA’s Social Development Secretariat for mental assessment and evaluation.
According to the police, symptoms of anxiety, persistent worry and fears were observed in the course of profiling the suspect.
However, in a statement on Friday the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said Yushau was released on Thursday.
He was released on bail to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju.
