Women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the ten wards in Oke Ero Local Government Area of Kwara State have threatened to vote against the party in the coming local government elections slated for September over what they described as Imposition of candidates by some influential members of the party.
The women who staged a protest against the alleged Imposition said the candidates chosen by the party did not win in the party’s primary election.
The women’s protest started at the APC party secretariat in Iloffa, from where they marched to the Oke Ero Local Government Council headquarters.
The protest was spearheaded by Jegede Modupe, Afolayan Omolola, and Hon. Aminat Yusuf Oduola, who voiced their frustration with the imposed candidates, asserting they were not chosen by the people and did not win in the primary election. They accused influential politicians of attempting to dominate them through imposition.
The women warned that they would resort to a protest vote on September 21st if their demands were not addressed. They called on the governor to step in and rectify the situation, ensuring their democratic rights are upheld.
“This is not a fight, but a call for our democratic rights to be respected. We have confidence that the governor will not support oppression.” Hon. Aminat declared.
