On Thursday, students of Kwara State Polytechnic, led by the institution’s Students’ Union President, Olalekan Isola, and the National President of the National Association of Kwara State Students, Abdulwahab Habeebullahi Arewa, marched to the Kwara State Police Command’s headquarters in Ilorin to demand justice for a fellow student, Abdulqoyyum Bamide, a 21-year-old National Diploma two (ND) 2 student of Electrical/Electronics Engineering of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
A source, who spoke to National Pilot under the condition of anonymity, stated, “Abdulqoyyum was allegedly being chased at Fate area of Ilorin by an alleged officer of the Kwara command of the Nigerian police force to an enclosed area. What happened there is still unclear, but when Abdulqoyyum was found, he had suffered a deep wound on one of his arms. He was therefore taken to the Kwara State General hospital where he gave up the ghost this morning and was buried this morning according to the Islamic religion burial rites”
It was gathered that Abdulqoyyum Bamide succumbed to his injuries at the Kwara State General Hospital after losing a significant amount of blood.
In response to the tragic incident, the Director of Students’ Services at Kwara State Polytechnic, Surveyor Aremu Abubakar Garuba, emphasized that the school management has taken over the case and is committed to ensuring that justice is served.
“The management of Kwara State Polytechnic has taken over the case. We are making an official complaint to the authorities so that the student will receive justice. We appreciate our students for taking the initiative, but it is not their case. It is the school’s case. We will get to the root of the matter,” Aremu told National Pilot.
As the investigation unfolds, the Kwara State Polytechnic community remains resolute in its demand for accountability and justice for Abdulqoyyum.
