The management of Kwara State University (KWASU) has dismissed circulating reports suggesting that the recent victim of a tragic killing in Tanke, Ilorin, was a current student of the institution.
The incident, involving the death of a 27-year-old man, Suleiman Olayinka, led the Kwara State Police Command to detain three officers pending an investigation.
According to Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the police command, the deceased was under investigation based on complaints of alleged cheating and criminal breach of trust.
The officers involved are being investigated to determine their role in the incident.
Addressing the matter, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, Acting Director of University Relations at KWASU, clarified that Olayinka had withdrawn voluntarily from the university’s Department of Statistics in the 2018/2019 academic session, when he was in his second year.
“The management of Kwara State University strongly sympathizes with the family of the deceased and prays that God gives the family the fortitude to bear the loss,” the statement read.
