Motorists within the Ilorin metropolis have lamented deeply over the recent reduction in the Pump Price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as Petrol.

Following the development, motorists who spoke to National Pilot on Tuesday described the change as insignificant.

A motorcyclist, Azeez Olalere, while speaking to National Pilot in the Taiwo area of Ilorin, lamented that at Total Energies where he buys fuel, only N1 was deducted from the previous price, he opined that it should have been sold at N 1,000

“The price of fuel has reduced a bit. The Total Energies filling station where I buy petrol removed ₦1 from their pump price. We used to buy at the rate of ₦1115 but today, they are selling at ₦1114. The ₦1 deduction is too small because to me personally, nothing has changed. It’s still the same. They should have reduced it by ₦114 to bring it down to ₦1000” Olalere said.

Similarly, a taxi driver, Kehinde Samson, shared his disappointment, stating that the price had not changed at his usual filling station.

“The price hasn’t changed. What I paid yesterday is still the same today. It’s hurting us because now, some people would rather walk than pay for motorcycle rides, no matter the distance.” He said

He further expressed hope for a more substantial price cut saying “We hope that it will come down more”

Another motorist, Faruq Muhammed declared that only a ₦4 reduction at his preferred station, where the price dropped from ₦1120 to ₦1116.

“Can we even call that a reduction?” he questioned. “We’re hoping for a much larger drop in price. We are all praying for the pump price to reduce drastically.”

National Pilot observed that most petrol stations along Asa-Dam, Saw-Mill Area, and down to Taiwo Road continue to sell at prices ranging from ₦1104 to ₦1120, with no notable reductions visible at many stations.

For motorists and motorcycle operators struggling with rising costs, the current reduction offers little solace, and many continue to hope for meaningful action to alleviate the economic strain.
