Tragedy struck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a lone accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus claimed two lives and left 15 others injured at Saapade, Ogun State.

The Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident on Thursday in Abeokuta. According to Okpe, the crash occurred at 4:34 p.m. and was caused by a tyre burst that led the driver to lose control, causing the bus to somersault.

The ill-fated bus, bearing registration number LSR 585 YH, had 18 passengers on board, including nine men, five women, two boys, and two girls. The crash left 15 people injured, comprising eight men, four women, two boys, and a girl. Unfortunately, two passengers—a man and a woman—lost their lives.

The injured victims were promptly rushed to PATMAG Hospital, Ogere, while the deceased were taken to the State General Hospital morgue in Isara.

Okpe noted that the Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, urged motorists to ensure the proper maintenance of their vehicles, particularly during periods of heavy traffic.

The FRSC therefore reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety, especially during the festive season when traffic tends to surge.
