The Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Mahe AbdulKadir, is dead. AbdulKadir reportedly died on Saturday at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), marking another loss for the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Prince Mahe AbdulKadir is the second Chief of Staff to Governor AbdulRazaq to die in office. His predecessor, Aminu Adisa Logun, passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19.
AbdulKadir, a respected figure in Kwara State, was appointed Chief of Staff on September 5, 2020, following Logun’s demise.
A prince of the Ilorin Emirate, AbdulKadir was the son of the 10th Emir of Ilorin, Mallam Aliyu Abdulkadir.
Before assuming his role as Chief of Staff, AbdulKadir had an illustrious career in public service. In 2003, he served as a Permanent Secretary in the Kwara state Government House, and later became the Clerk of the Kwara State House of Assembly in 2004, a position he held until 2007. He was also a senior official with the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Prince Mahe AbdulKadir was a cousin to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari. Both shared a familial connection as princes of the Ilorin Emirate.
His death has been met with an outpouring of condolences and tributes from across the state and beyond, reflecting the depth of his contributions to governance and public service.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by his family in accordance with Islamic rites.
