The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully secured the release of Hon. Shekolo Samuel, an organizing secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was abducted by armed assailants along the Guzape–Abacha Barracks bypass in Abuja.
Samuel, a former legislative aide to Senator Philips Tanimu Aduda, was among several motorists and passengers taken hostage around 11:31 a.m. on Tuesday.
Confirming the development, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu, stated in a press briefing that Samuel was rescued at approximately 1:33 a.m. on Thursday. His release was made possible through a coordinated operation involving the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups.
He was freed in the Yelwa Forest area of Nasarawa State, near Gbagalape village, Nyanya Mine.
In a related rescue operation, another abductee, Nsiyan Chalse Eyang, who was kidnapped near the Nyanya hills on February 23 around 8:30 p.m., regained his freedom on Wednesday following similar intervention efforts.
The police noted that they have intensified efforts to track down and apprehend the perpetrators. The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the investigation to ensure justice is served.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Disu therefore urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies for swift action.
