Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has extended his congratulations to the Muslim Ummah on the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, urging them to embody the core values of Islam—compassion, generosity, and kindness.
In a statement signed by his Press Officer on Local Matters, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, Saraki emphasized the importance of observing Ramadan not just through fasting but also by deepening spiritual devotion and assisting the less privileged.
“As we settle into the solemn spiritual activities of the Holy Month of Ramadan, let us embrace the deeper lessons of Islam—compassion, generosity, and love for one another,” Saraki stated.
He encouraged Muslims to use this period for self-reflection, prayer, and acts of kindness, stressing that “in all our doings, may we reflect kindness and extend a helping hand to those in need, for it is in lifting others that we honour the true spirit of this Holy Month.”
Saraki further noted that beyond abstaining from food and drink, Ramadan should be an opportunity to strengthen one’s connection with God.
“Let us use this time to strengthen our connection with Almighty Allah (SWT) through prayers and supplication,” he urged.
Saraki also called for patience, humility, and a collective effort towards building a just and united society.
“May we open our hearts to the less fortunate, uphold the values of patience and humility, and strive for a society built on justice and unity,” he said.
In his concluding remarks, the former Senate President prayed for peace and prosperity in Nigeria.
“As we do so, I pray that the Almighty blesses us abundantly and grants peace and prosperity to the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.
