Suspected Cultists Kill Teenager, Injure Two Others At Football Viewing Centre in Kwara

Tragedy struck on Wednesday night at a football viewing centre located along Coca-Cola Road in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, as suspected cult members unleashed violence, killing a 19-year-old boy and injuring two others.
The terrifying attack happened at approximately 9:05 p.m. while fans were engrossed in a live football match. Eyewitnesses described a sudden eruption of gunfire that sent spectators scrambling for safety.
A witness, who spoke under anonymity, recounted the horrifying ordeal saying: “They just came out of nowhere and started shooting. People ran in different directions. It was like a war zone”
The teenage victim, whose identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of this report, was reportedly shot in the head and died on the spot.
“He was lying in a pool of blood. It was a horrifying sight,” the source added, describing the gruesome aftermath.
Two others were injured by stray bullets and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
Another eyewitness revealed the immediate chaos and his own panic when he heard gunshots:
“I heard a gunshot and had to turn back immediately. My wife’s shop is located at that place. A young man was hit by a stray bullet and was lying in a pool of blood,” he said.
The witness further stated that he approached officers conducting a stop-and-search operation under the A-Division bridge to notify them of the shooting.
“I met some police officers under the bridge where they were doing stop and search. I told them about the incident, and they said they would mobilise to the scene,” he narrated.
However, as of the time this report was filed, there was no clear indication of what action the police had taken in response.
Efforts by National Pilot to get reaction from the Kwara State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Thursday were unsuccessful as she didn’t pick up call put through her line nor replied text sent to her line.
