Seven passengers traveling from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to Offa in Kwara State were on Sunday morning abducted by suspected kidnappers near Obbo-Aiyegunle, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving behind three children.
The incident occurred when the victims, who boarded a Sienna bus belonging to Olumoh Express, a transport company based in Offa, were intercepted by the suspected kidnappers mid-journey.
Speaking to National Pilot in a telephone interview, the secretary of the transport company, Mr. Mukaila Ogunlade, confirmed the incident.
โThe incident truly happened. In fact, we are just coming from Osi Police Station. The bus left the park with five passengers, but the oldest of the children that were left behind told us that two more people later joined them on the way. Presently, we are looking for seven people,โ he said.
Ogunlade further explained that the attack occurred around the Obbo-Aiyegunle area, a region that has seen increased security concerns in recent times.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the Kwara State Police Command proved unsuccessful as the command’s spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, did not respond to multiple calls placed to her mobile line on Sunday afternoon.
A text message sent to her, which read: “Good Afternoon Ma, I’m calling from National Pilot. There is a reported case of kidnapping along Obbo-Aiyegunle involving 7 passengers that boarded Olumoh Express from Abuja to Offa. What’s Kwara State Police Command’s reaction to this Ma?”remained unreplied as of the time of filing this report
