A fatal crash involving two container-laden trailers occurred on Sunday morning at the Costain section of the Eko Bridge in Lagos, resulting in the death of two individuals.
A witness who spoke to Newsmen on Sunday, recounted that the tragic incident happened in the early hours of the morning, when two container-laden trucks crashed head-on with devastating force. The collision caused the containers to topple, reportedly trapping and injuring multiple bystanders and commuters in the chaos.
“The crash was loud and terrifying. People were screaming and running. Some victims are lying on the ground, barely moving. It’s a terrible scene,” the witness said.
The death of the two persons was confirmed by the Director of Incident and Event Management, Enforcement and Compliance of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Adeosun Adegboye.
He also revealed that one of the truck drivers was critically injured and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital while the other driver fled the scene immediately the accident happened.
The cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed, but early reports suggested that brake failure or reckless driving may have caused the tragic incident.
