A manhunt for escaped inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State, has led to the arrest of Kabiru Oyedun in Lagos.

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the development, revealing that Oyedun, aged 39, was located and apprehended in the Ayobo area of the state. His arrest follows strategic operations aimed at shielding Lagos from incoming criminal threats.

The command’s public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, declared on Friday that, “Kabiru Oyedun ‘m’ aged 39 was rearrested following his escape from Ilesa Correctional Centre.

“He was trailed and arrested in Ayobo on May 21, 2025 at about 5:30pm by operatives of the Command attached to Ayobo Division. This is largely due to the proactive and preventive measures put in place by the Lagos state police command to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the state,”

The escape occurred on Tuesday after torrential rainfall compromised the security of the Ilesa correctional facility, destroying part of the perimeter wall and enabling seven inmates to flee.

By the following day, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) had released photos and identities of the fugitives, launching a public appeal with a N5 million bounty for credible leads.

The fugitives include: John Micheal (34), Tobi Akin (19), Eze Nweze (40), Ninalowo Yusuf (28), Matthew Ogunjimi (20), Kabiru Oyedun (39), and Olalekan Ajofoyinbo (45).
