Troops from the 22 Armoured Brigade stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Patigi, Kwara State, have dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate, arresting eight suspects and rescuing their captives.

The raid was part of intensified efforts by the Nigerian Army to combat criminal activities and restore peace across the state.

According to a statement released by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Brigade Lieutenant Stephen Nwankwo, in Ilorin, the mission was carried out on Saturday, following actionable intelligence.

The troops stormed the criminal hideout located on the outskirts of Latandaji Village in Patigi Local Government Area, conducting a precise and tactical operation that led to the successful apprehension of the suspects and safe rescue of the victims.

Nwankwo noted that the operation is one of several ongoing efforts to eliminate threats posed by armed groups and safeguard local communities across Kwara State.

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to supporting civil authorities and maintaining law and order, urging residents to continue providing useful information to aid future security operations.

“During the engagement, troops encountered mild resistance but swiftly subdued the criminals with superior firepower. The operation led to the rescue of two kidnap victims, identified as Mr Amos Moses and Mr Philip Michael, and the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers.

“However, one individual, Mr Mohammed Mohammed, sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire and has been evacuated to Bachita Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

“Further exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two motorcycles and two expended cartridge shells, believed to have been used by the suspects,” the statement noted.

The statement also said that all the arrested individuals are currently in military custody for preliminary investigation, adding that they would be handed over to relevant authorities for prosecution.

“This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the country. We urge members of the public to continue providing actionable intelligence to security forces as we work together to dismantle criminal networks.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to safeguard communities and restore lasting peace in all regions of deployment,” the statement added.
