Cancer: Omolewa calls for yearly screening

Wife of the Kwara State Governor, Deaconess Owolewa Ahmed has called on women to embark on cancer screening at least once in a year to save lives.
Deaconess Ahmed made the call during a sensitisation visit on breast and cervical cancer to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin recently.
The first lady who identified breast and cervical cancer as the most common in Africa, noted that most women die yearly due to ignorance.
She called on all stakeholders to join LEAH Foundation in the fight against breast and cervical cancer which started six years ago.
Ahmed, who disclosed that LEAH Foundation has established anti-cancer clubs in both secondary and tertiary institutions in order to reach out to adolescent and young adults on issues relating to breast and cervical cancer prevention, sought permission from the management of the Polytechnic to establish a screening centre in the institution.
Responding, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Alh. Mas’ud Elelu said early detection of cancer is key to saving lives.
He thanked the wife of the Governor for choosing to establish a screening centre in the polytechnic, stressing that the institution will give total support to LEAH Foundation in its fight against cancer in Kwara.
