Police arrest fake soldier in Ilorin

A middle aged man,  Yunusa Ojolowo of Checking Point area of Ilorin, Kwara State was arrested by men of Kwara State Police Command for impersonation, recently.

The suspect, who is now cooling his heels in police net was said to have been parading himself as a military officer serving at the 29 Battalion Bodi Camp Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The suspect reportedly harassed residents of the area and its environs on pretext of being an army officer.

A police source disclosed that the suspect physically assaulted  Ahmadu Abdulahi, Umar Sanni, Abdullahi Yinusa and Ismaila Baba Uro all of Otte-Oja.

“He goes around in army cap, harrassing and beating up people mercilessly. On the fateful day, he beat up the three men and the case was reported at the police station in Otte-Oja by members of the community.

The source added that the police responded swiftly and arrested the suspect at the scene.

“The suspect was arrested and taken to police station for interrogation. He confessed to have been impersonating, while also claiming to have lived in the barrack for a long time as a civilian,” the source added.

Efforts to get state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi to confirm the case proved abortive as calls made to his GSM did not connect and text messages not acknowledged.
