By Ahmed Ajikobi
The Chairman of Abubakar Bukola Saraki Hajj, Umrah and Jerusalem Committee, Justice Idris Haroon(Rtd) has warned the intending 2018 hajj pilgrims sponsored by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki against smuggling drugs to the holy land.
He stated this on Tuesday, during a special prayer organised by the committee for the 20 intending pilgrims selected across the 16 local governments of the state, at the Illofa Road, Ilorin residence of Saraki.
Justice Haroon urged them to pray for peace to continue to reign in the state and the country in general, adding that they should abide by the rules and regulations of the exercise.
“While in the holy land, you must protect your passport and be careful of the hot weather over there. Drink more water and also take note of the number on the gate you pass through when going out in order not to go missing.
“You must persevere, do not fight or abuse anyone including your roommates. Don’t help anyone with their luggage at the airport; it’s dangerous because they might have hard drugs in their baggage,” he warned.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Lanre Yusuf Badmas prayed for successful trip for the intending pilgrims. He also prayed for Allah’s protection and guidance for Dr Saraki.
According to him, the gesture of the Senate President was to promote Islam by sponsoring indigent Muslims who are desirous of embarking on holy pilgrimage.
