Kwara South monarchs who were recently elevated to the status of 3rd class have appealed to the state government for upgrade of facilities in their domains and provision of employment opportunities for the teeming youth.
The monarchs; Onidofin of Idofin-Odo Ashe, Oba Pius Oluwole Oni and Onidofin of Idofin Igbana, Oba Samuel Olawuyi Fabiyi, stated this during the presentation of staff to them last Thursday at Iloffa, OkeEro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Oba Oni noted that the access road to Idofin-Odo Ashe has become death traps and no longer motorable.
He further urged the state government to come to the aid of his people before the community is eventually cut off from neighbouring towns.
“We thank God because we are able to witness the elevation today, but we want government to do something about our roads before it get out of hand. Also, we have many graduates in the community but many of them are unemployed,” the monarch stressed, while urging the state government to also consider other communities in Oke-Ero who are equally due for elevation.
Oba Fabiyi while expressing his happiness charged that state government to look into history and do the needful by elevating his stool to 2nd class in no distant time like other Idofin Igbana communities.
He also called for repair of the roads in the town as well as other infrastructure.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Habeeb Saidu described the monarchs as veritable tools for grassroots mobilisation, socio-economic and political development.
“Let me at the point emphasize to your royal Highness that there is no authority except that which the Almighty God has established. Therefore, you should be grateful to God for choosing you to serve your people.
“I call on you today to bear this in mind and endeavor to close ranks with all and sundry, co-exist peacefully with your neighbours in order to give room for accelerated development of your domain,” the Commissioner stated.
