KWASU committed to community devt, research, says VC

 

The Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Prof AbdulRasheed Na’Allahย  said the institution is committed to research and community development, adding that it is a way the university can make an impact on national development.
Na’ Allah, who was represented by the deputy Vice Chancellor (Admin) and also the Provost, College of Humanities, management and Social Sciences, Prof. Sakah Mahmud stated this last week at the Conference hall of the institution when he received the officers and men of Senior Course 41, of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, who were on weeklong study tour to Kwara State.
He said it was a delight to hear military is concerned about issues of educational development in the country, saying that in the past, there was a dichotomy between the military and the civilians.
The Vice Chancellor also explained that for peace, security and development of any nation to take place, the military has to be involved. He therefore, charged them to continue to discharge their professionalism for the protection and survival of the territorial integrity.
Speaking further, he said that the university has commenced awarding Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in Advanced Military Studies, adding that the doctorate programme is to groom students in the advance history and multi-disciplinary theories of war as a fundamental human challenge.
Responding, the Team Leader, Commodore Sunday Obadina said the visit constituted a major aspect of the geo-strategic curriculum of the command and staff college senior course 41 currently undergoing training in the college.
Obadina also said, the study team would proffer workable solutions to identify problems relating to education in Kwara State.
He further stated that the report gathered from this study tour would be presented at the College as their research work.
Meanwhile, the Senior Officers and men of the Command College were later conducted round some selected departments of the institution which included the Tourism gallery, the Solar farm and Library Complex.
Similarly, the officers and men of the Command and Staff College were equally received by the Special Adviser on Agriculture and Rural Water Support Service, Mr. Anu Ibiwoye and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Mohammed Katsina.
Ibiwoye told the visiting team about the overall view of Agriculture in Kwara State and the comparative advantage in certain crop production such as rice, cassava, maize, soya beans, cashew, shea-butter, vegetable among others which he said has export potentials.
Meanwhile, the week long study tour also featured lecture series delivered at the Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office by the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment, Alhaji Saka Babatunde, titled: โ€œtechnical Education as a panacea to arrest youth restiveness in Kwara State. Also, Dr. Nasirudeen Balogun also delivered a paper titled:โ€Up scaling employment opportunities in Kwara State through skill acquisition and technical education, while the retired permanent secretary, now Special Assistant on Cabinet Matters and Speech writing, Elder David A. Adesina focused his lecture on history, geography, culture and occupation of the people of Kwara State.
