JAAC: Kwara 16LGs shares N1bn for Nov
The 16 local government areas of Kwara State have shared a total sum of N1,014,911,705.45 billion as distributable amount for the month of November 2018.
The state Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr. Joshua Omokanye disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting held in Ilorin, on Tuesday.
According to him, the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has approved the release of N115million for the implementation of promotion of local government staff as well as teaching and non-teaching staff under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
He assured that the implementation with cash backing will commence from this November salary for workers at the councils.
Giving the break down, Omokanye said the state Universal Education Board (SUBEB) teachers got N1,054,220,257.54 as November allocation.
He said that Local Government and Local Government Education Authority pensioners would receive full pensions this month as the amount stood at N481,996,833.34, adding that 10 per cent Internally Generated Revenue from state government of N32,411,926.73 and Value Added Tax (VAT) of N571,247,622.89 were also shared.
The ALGON boss explained that statutory allocation for the month of November stood at N2,233,378,945.36 as against N2,068,120,432.93 in previous month.
The chairman explained that the fund was appropriated in line with law guiding the local government account which included; Teachers salary N1,054,220,257.54 ;LG and LGEA pension N481,996,833.34 among others.
He revealed that the sum of N279,646,975.46 was deducted at source as repayment for the loan the councils obtained in the past .
He further explained distribution of the allocations among the Local Government Councils in the state was done in accordance with section 4(2) of the state Joint Local Government Account Law (cap80) as amended by Law 15 of 2001.
The ALGON boss also appreciated the Governor for approving the cash backing for the promoted workers, urging the affected civil servants to reciprocate through commitment and dedication to work.
Also Speaking, the Kwara State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Alhaji Toyin Saliu, applauded the state Governor for fulfilling his promise to the workers.
