Nigerian fans celebrate Mourinho’s sack

Nigerian football fans of English Premier League are in high heavens following the sack of Jose Mourinho.
Leading the celebration of Mourinho’s dismissal of the Portuguese trainer sack in Nigeria is a popular Arsenal fan and brand expert, Semiu Akinbode.
“This is exactly what we have been waiting for. Apart from winning some couple of trophies for United I can’t name any other thing he has achieved. He has totally changed United in a wrong way.
“He’s busy fighting with his players and even the fans don’t respect him anymore. Look at Pogba’s Instagram post after the sack, that’s just to tell you that the special one that’s not so special anymore had lost it even in his own dressing room. I am here celebrating and I have told my friends and colleagues that the drinks are on me.”
Reacting through his twitter handle, @ebuka_akara another fan, wrote. “On Mourinho’s issue, if you have the same problem in 3 different clubs then you are the problem.
For @mazi_duce; “He[Mourinho] has to accept the fact that football system and tactics evolve, he still thinks with his style and managements toward modern Football he got things all figured out.
Interestingly, the Nigerian fans pointed out that Mourinho always gets sacked after losing to a team handled by Jurgen Klopp.
The Portuguese was fired at Real Madrid after losing 1-4 in the Champions League to a Borrusia Dortmund side led by Klopp. It was the same situation on his second coming to Chelsea where he was shown the exit after a 1-3 loss to Klopp’s Liverpool and now it is the same Liverpool that defeated Mourinho’s team by the same score line.
The Portuguese took over the Red Devils in 2016 winning the League Cup and Europa League trophies but they are currently 19 points behind league leaders Liverpool and 6th on the table.
The Portuguese was told of his fate at around 9am on Tuesday in a face-to-face meeting with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward at United’s Carrington training base.
Woodward was keen to speak to Mourinho in person and the 55-year-old then departed Carrington at around 12.20pm.
Michael Carrick will take care of first-team affairs before a new interim manager is put in charge until the end of the season. The external appointment is expected to be announced within the next 48 hours.
United are understood to be interested in hiring a technical director for the first time in their history with the new man expected to be in place before they appoint a permanent successor to Mourinho in the summer.
Mourinho’s future had been the subject of intense scrutiny this season – and the club’s worst start to a campaign in 28 years was confirmed with defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.
Mourinho’s final game in charge was a 3-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool.
The 55-year-old Portuguese insisted at Anfield that he had not lost the dressing room, as his team sat sixth in the Premier League table and 11 points off the Champions League places.
Woodward is understood to have told Mourinho of his fate shortly before the club announced that “manager Jose Mourinho has left the club with immediate effect”.
UEFA Champions League: Liverpool face Bayern as Madrid, Barca draw Ajax, Lyon
There are some interesting match ups in the 2018 UEFA Champions League Round of 16 as Manchester United takes on Paris Saint Germain while another Premiership club, Liverpool will try Bayern Munich for size over two legs.
Bayern’s last encounter with Liverpool was the 2001 UEFA Super Cup in Monaco, where the English club triumphed 3-2 over the German club.
Jürgen Klopp has faced Bayern more than any other team in his managerial career. Winning nine and losing 16 times to Bayern in 29 matches.
Also, Tottenham will face Klopp’s former team, Borussia Dortmund in one of the four English/German club pairing. Spurs defeated same team 3-1 at home and 2-1 away in last season’s group stage.
Also, Real Madrid will rekindle their rivalry with Ajax having won their last six games against the Dutch club, scoring 20 goals in that time and conceding just two.
Another Spanish club, Barcelona will hope to continue their unbeaten run in six previous meetings with Lyon, winning four and drawing two.
The first leg takes place between in February 2019 while the return fixture will be played in March.
